Princess Anya
Anya is the main protagonist of the novel, and the novel is told from her third person perspective, though Nix sometimes breaks the fourth wall to speak directly to the reader outside of Anya’s perspective. Anya’s earned honorific while on her Quest - Frogkisser - is also the title of the novel. The novel starts with Anya reading with her friend Gotfried in the library, when this is disturbed by her sister screaming. Anya is the step-daughter of the evil Duke Rikard, who is trying to take the throne away from her older sister Morven. Anya is younger than Morven by three years, making her roughly age 13. This is presumably the same age and gender demographic as his average young adult reader, making Anya a sympathetic protagonist.
