The main character in "Friday" by Robert Heinlein is an Artificial Person named Friday. Friday is also known as Marjorie Baldwin to those outside her profession.
Friday is not human. Instead, she has been created from a test tube experiment in a lab known as a crèche. Friday appears human but has many skills and abilities not possessed by humans. Friday is immune to most disease and can regenerate herself given time. This is seen when Friday is injured after being tortured in Chicago when she returns from Kenya. Friday is also able to store vast amounts of data, which is why the Boss chooses her to become the World's Greatest Authority. Friday also possesses great strength, speed, and dexterity. All of these things are vital to her job as courier for Systems Enterprises and beyond.
