Brancion-en-Chalon
Violette and Philippe become the cemetery keepers at Brancion-en-Chalon. The reader eventually learns that this is also where Leonine's tomb is. The cemetery is large with four sections. There are three full-time employees in addition to Violette and Philippe. Violette loves the cottage that becomes her home. She tends to the cemetery grounds even though it is not technically in her job description. She also grows and sells flowers as a sideline for extra income. The cemetery is in the town of Burgundy, which is described only in passing. It seems fairly large considering that Violette becomes turned around one day.
Malgrange-sur-Nancy
Malgrange-sur-Nancy is where Violette lives with her family at the time of Leonine's death. They have a house that is part of their job tending the level-crossing. The house has two bedrooms, but Violette closes up Leonine's bedroom soon after her death and never opens it...
