Summary

Chapter 31 takes place in 2017. Violette knows Philippe is just 110 kilometers away. He did not take anything with him when he left, and she has no idea what prompted him to stay away. She had not reported him missing right away, assuming he would eventually return as he always did. Her attitude changed over the years. After eight years, she was certain he would not return. She now knows that Philippe is living with a woman named Francoise Pelletier. Violette has a lawyer file a letter of intent to divorce.

In Chapter 32, Violette accompanies Julien to Gabriel's tomb to place Irene's ashes. Julien asks Violette to read his memorial after the cemetery is closed.
