Summary

In Chapter 52, Homer knows that Two Shoes needs to be watched. Homer is taught how to climb the trees to make the new bridge. On the ground, the rope looks like a snake. They all work together, moving in unison to get the rope up into the trees. Suleman joins them. In Chapter 53, despite usually wanting to remain invisible, Homer hopes Suleman sees him, so Suleman knows he made it safe. They start to assemble the bridge, and when it is his turn, Billy falls over the edge and needs to be rescued. Still, he manages to do his part after Suleman pulls him up. When it is Homer’s turn, Suleman tells him that Old Joe said that Rose is safe and has not been sold. Suleman tells him, “Go down and keep learning what it means to be free” (249).
