Maxwell Kane

Max is about fourteen years old when he writes about the quests and adventures he and his best friend, Freak, undertook over their year together as "Freak the Mighty." Max is a really big kid. He is tall and stocky and very strong for his age. He has earned a reputation as being a little on the rough, even violent, side. His grandparents fear that he might become violent like his father, who is known as Killer Kane. Max does not do well in school even though he gets help in the learning disabled class and he does not have any friends—that is, until he meets up with Kevin, the Freak, who moves in a few doors down from his house.
