Manchester, England
Much of the present-day narrative strain in Frankissstein takes place in Manchester, England, where Victor Stein has an apartment and a secret lab. Ry hails from Manchester and meets with Victor there. Stein's secret lab is located under the streets of Manchester, in old fallout shelters constructed during the Cold War. The lab is quintessentially Gothic. The electricity flickers, there are many different passage ways and chambers, and inside Stein conducts morbid experiments with dismembered body parts. At the end of the novel, he tries to scan a preserved brain in the lab and then Stein and his lab disappear.
Lake Geneva
The novel opens in Lake Geneva, Switzerland, in 1816 where Mary and Percy Shelley are staying with Lord Byron. Claire Clairmont, Mary Shelley's stepsister, is also staying with them. Although the Shelleys move a great deal during the novel, traveling through Europe and then to Italy...
