Violet Sorrengail

Violet is the novel's protagonist. At the beginning of the novel she is 20 years old. In the early chapters of the novel, Violet is self-doubting and worries she will not survive the Riders training. Despite this, she is determined to succeed. She does not want her older sister Mira to become an only child. She is often very family oriented in this manner. Further, she is extremely kind and puts others above herself. During her first day in Riders training, she gives another trainee one of her boots. If she had not done that, the trainee may have slipped and fallen to her death due to the dangerous training and rainy weather.

Violet had a fever when she was young that caused her hair to lose color at the ends and become silver, which also made her have a disability that causes weak muscles and "brittle" bones...
