Summary
Violet and Xaden's relationship continues to develop, and the tension between the two lessens as Violet realizes that despite what her sister said, Xaden does not want to hurt her. In Chapter 9, the two fight on the mat during training, and Xaden helps her learn some combat skills rather than taking the opportunity to hurt her like some of the other cadets have.
In Chapter 10, the cadets practice a dangerous obstacle course that is mandatory to pass for their graduation to Rider, called the Gauntlet. Violet fails her practice rounds because she's not tall enough or strong enough to climb one of the final obstacles of the Gauntlet.
