Summary
In Part 3, Chapter 10, the harassment at the store stops temporarily but extreme violence against Asians continues in other parts of the state.
In Part 3, Chapter 11, Daiyu’s relationship with Nelson deepens, and she tell him that “we can be brothers now” (193). Though it irks Li Daiyu, she finds it “easy to tell him shades of the truth” (194).
In Part 3, Chapter 12, Nelson takes Daiyu to his secret place in a grove of trees and Daiyu “realizes that I want him the way I wanted the fish: badly, and with abandon” (197). Nelson offers to introduce her to his wealthy friend in Boise, who may be able to find her parents, who he believes to be her foster family. Lin Daiyu chastises her for being too open with Nelson, and fears that she will compromise their safety.
