Summary
Chapter Thirteen is titled “Red Jacket Beans,” and is narrated in the first-person voice of Nanapush. When Nanapush wakes up after his adventures, he realizes that he is still wearing Margaret’s dress, and that it has been damaged. When he takes it off and looks for his own clothes, he finds that Margaret has destroyed them. When he sits down to both repair them and the dress, he finds himself irritated by a buzzing fly, which he imagines, in a fit of ongoing jealousy, to be Shesheeb, who has transformed himself. Nanapush becomes frantic and restless in his attempts to kill the fly, making a mess out of the house. At one point he collapses, but feels the need to empty his bowels. He thinks of this as a way to trap the fly, and so he defecates on Margaret’s linoleum...
