Summary
Chapter Nine is titled “Love Snare,” and is narrated in the first-person voice of Nanapush. He begins by commenting on how, while Fleur was going through the struggles of her life, he was going through some struggles of his own. Those struggles, he says, had to do with the return of an old enemy, Shesheeb. He describes Shesheeb’s troubled childhood, including his apparent inability to connect with spirit guides and his descent into cruelty, some of which was directed towards Nanapush. That cruelty, Nanapush says, also included violence towards his sister, whom Shesheeb married and who was killed by him – at least that is what Nanapush and others believe.
