When Alex gets up the next morning, John is sitting at the table with Nana having breakfast as though nothing had happened the night before. John apologizes for his behavior and Nana supports him encouraging Alex to forgive him and let it go. Alex does, and reciprocates for not having been able to save his friend, and then gives him a new direction. Payback - it is all they have left.
