Part One: The Last Case: Chapters 25 - 31 Summary

Sampson and Cross go for a bite to eat and overhear a woman describing a murder that had just occurred. Curious, Alex asks her what happened and she briefly describes how Vanessa was shot. When her boyfriend gets angry that she is talking to them, Alex shows identification to prove he's a homicide detective which only makes matters worse. Before they can say much more, they find themselves in handcuffs and on their way to jail for disturbing the peace. It takes no time at all before Cross puts together the fact that the whole thing is a set up. The four army types that were also arrested were let go, and they are told in no uncertain terms that they should forget all about Cooper and go home.
