Chapters 7 and 8 Summary
By the time Devers and Barr are in custody for a month, Devers has made a friend of Sergeant Mori Luk by giving him a personal-sized freezer that Luk sent to his wife. Devers says that such things are common on board a Trader's ship and that he has various technological gadgets of that sort. By giving Luk that gift, he's earned a quiet source of information. Though Luk is described as the perfect soldier and completely loyal and obedient, he's begun providing small details to Devers because of the gift. Luk goes to Devers to say that Bodrig is going to be questioning him.
Bodrig tells Devers that he knows that Riose has some reason for treating Devers - who is really a captive - so well. Bodrig offers one hundred thousand credits if Devers will tell him what Riose...
