Part 2, Cleon I, Chapters 10-25 Summary
In Chapter 10, Raych feels baby-faced and disgusted as he settles into the hotel in Wye in which Kaspalov had lived. Overworked and corrupt, local authorities make nothing of Kaspalov's murder, so Raych plans to ask around about Kaspalov, hoping to attract someone's attention. In Chapter 11 Raych in a bar is approached by an attractive prostitute, Manella, who after claiming nervously not to recognize the name Kaspalov or the word Joranumite, walks away to talk to a clean-shaven, middle-aged man at another table. This man comes over to talk about Joranum.
In Chapter 12, Raych, calling himself Planchet, sizes up the man who doubts that he is old enough to be a Joranumite. Raych parrots the party line, avoiding pitfalls and feigning ignorance as needed. He claims to be willing to fight for his beliefs. Presently, he...
