Point of View
The novel is told in first-person perspective by Stevie, the protagonist. However, despite the close perspective on Stevie, there remains a great deal of distance between the reader and Stevie throughout most of the novel because of the dramatic irony created by her amnesia. The novel makes the choice to reveal Stevie as a narrator to the reader prior to her amnesia.
A few chapters later, when Stevie falls and hits her head, she loses the last two years of her life, but the reader retains awareness of her life prior to the fall.
