Stevie Green
Stevie Green is the protagonist and narrator of the novel. Stevie is the only child of her parents, Julia and John. One of her parents is white, and the other is Korean, but the novel never specifies which is which. Stevie is one of the only non-white students in her whole town, and she grows up experiencing a lot of racism and micro-aggressions. She feels perfectly at home, though, with her loving parents and her two best friends, Savannah and Rory. Stevie plays soccer and is an excellent student. She considers her mother her best friend, and adores her father. She attends a Catholic school and is an active member of her family’s church.
