Summary
In Chapter 54, Isabel and Curzon’s discussion was interrupted by John Laurens pounding on the door. He brought good news that the French had joined the Americans as allies and would fight with them against the British.
In Chapter 55, Isabel, Curzon, and Mrs. Cook were overworked because so many more men crowded into Moore Hall to plan for the coming war. One day, Bellingham complained about his meal and was told by Mrs. Cook that she and the two servants were doing the best they could considering the circumstances. She added the men were welcome to help if they would like.
Festivities were planned because of the French joining forces with the Americans. While Bellingham bathed before the ceremonies, Curzon pressed the key to Isabel’s iron band into the soft wax from a candle.
