Chapters 19 - 24 Summary

In Chapter 19, Lynley and Helen attend Randie Webberly's concert. Two men are playing darts. The younger of the two yells out to one of his professors, issuing a challenge. The professors name is Troughton, but the young man playing darts refers to him as "Trout." Upon hearing this, something falls into place in Lynley's mind. After Lynley introduces himself, Victor Troughton escorts Lynley and Lady Helen to his rooms. Troughton admits to having an affair with Elena Weaver. He is disenchanted with his marriage. Troughton had a vasectomy, which proves that he did not father Elena's child. Troughton knows Elena only slept with him as a way to get back at Anthony Weaver. Lady Helen is unimpressed with Victor Troughton. Nonetheless, Troughton informs Lynley and Lady Helen that he was in love with Elena and wanted to marry her even if...
