Chapter 7-9 Summary
Chapter 7 - In the spring of 1242, a woman suddenly appears to Parry. She is Lilah, sent by Lucifer to corrupt Parry. When Lilah is present, Jolie vanishes. Parry discovers that utilizing his cross, he can banish Lilah, who reappears again and again. Lilah insists that if Parry confesses his sins, the Dominican order will lose respect and standing. Parry grudging knows it is the truth. Lilah says she can only ever fully be banished by doing away with the evil in his heart, not merely making a show of doing away with evil. Lilah explains that his wife's ghost reminded him of the pleasures of the flesh, a memory now well-fixed in his mind. Lilah says she can make him an agent of Lucifer. When she goes for the day, Jolie returns and tells Parry he must oppose her. Lilah returns again the next day...
