Managua, Nicaragua

Managua is the capital city of Nicaragua. This is also the city where Rodríguez was born and raised. She spent the early years of her childhood residing here with her parents and siblings. In the early chapters of the text, she includes memories from her life in Managua, recalling the ways in which she lost an attachment to her childhood home after immigrating to the States. Later in Chapter 6, Rodríguez references a return trip she took to Nicaragua with her father after many years away.

Miami, Florida

Miami is the city in Florida to which Rodríguez and her family immigrated after leaving Nicaragua. When they first arrived, Rodríguez noticed the ways in which Miami culture possessed Latin American influences.
