Ada

Ada is the novel’s protagonist and point-of-view character. She resembles a human, but she appears to be a non-human being. She was created by Father, who used a natural or supernatural process in which he made her from various elements of nature. Ada and Father have lifespans much longer than that of a human, and thus they age slowly. Ada resembles a teenage girl or young woman, despite the fact that she is multiple decades old. Ada lives with Father in a house in the woods. Ada and Father use their seemingly supernatural healing abilities to tend to the illnesses of nearby human villagers.
