Summary
In “For the God of Love, For the Love of God,” Amanda and her husband Grant are visiting Amanda's childhood friend Genevieve at her home in France. Genevieve's house is in an unnamed village in the countryside, and she lives with her husband Manfred, a Swiss baron who is recovering from electroshock therapy administered to treat his bipolar disorder, and their four-year-old son Leo. Coming out of the guest bedroom in the morning, Amanda finds Leo in the hall, pressed up against a window. He points to a dead bird on the ground outside and tells her that it fell out of the sky.
