Summary
Gussie attends the annual swim pageant with Anna in “Gussie.” At one point, Gussie gets lost in the crowd in pursuit of Stuart. Once Anna finds her, she slaps her and warns her to never run off again. Anna and Stuart exchange a sad look from afar. At the end of a race, someone from the swim committee announces that they would like to honor Florence’s memory. Anna explains to Gussie that this means that everyone already knows about Florence’s death.
With Joseph’s help, Esther sorts through Florence’s things in “Esther.” She finally confronts him about the affidavit and the letter he wrote in which he revealed his engagement to Inez and said that Anna is like a daughter to him. He tries to soothe her worries by explaining that he wrote to Inez to break things...
