Summary

Chapters 42-55

Chapter 42

Flora is nervous when she gets home, expecting something bad to happen. Her father, however, happily honks the horn several times while celebrating the heroism of Ulysses in saving him from the cat.

Chapter 43

Flora, Ulysses, and her father walk into the house and discover that William Spiver is there. William Spiver is helping Mrs. Buckman write her romance novel. Flora sees William Spiver’s presence with the arch-nemesis as confirmation that he is an enemy as well.

Chapter 44

Flora confronts her mother and William Spiver. Mrs. Buckman is displeased to see the squirrel has returned with Flora. Mr. Buckman tries to tell his ex-wife why he did not kill the squirrel by describing Ulysses’ heroic actions, but Mrs. Buckman has no sympathy for either the squirrel or her former husband, causing Flora to grow angry with her mother and...
