Blaze Duvall
Blaze Duvall is a young and attractive woman working as a freelance masseuse in San Diego. Because of her job, Blaze rarely shares her real name, Mary Ellen Singleton, with anyone in her life. Some time prior to the narrative present, Blaze was arrested for prostitution. After this incident, she began working a more low profile job via her former manager Serenity Jones.
Blaze lives in a small apartment by herself. She has little money and is worried about her future. Therefore, when one of her clients, Ambrose Lutterworth, offers her the opportunity to make $15,000, Blaze agrees. Over the course of the novel, she does her best to earn the trust of the crane operators, Simon Cooke and Miles Hargrave.
