Chapter 8: The Yard Summary
Bryce's blunt assessment of Juli's yard had forced her to realize that she and her parents were poor. They never went on vacations and everything they bought was second-hand. One night at dinner, after her encounter with Bryce, she told her parents she wanted to fix up the front yard and that it wouldn't cost much. Her father told her the house was a rental and that they didn't own it. She was flabbergasted. She had no idea that he wasn't really their house. She had lived there all her life.
But Juli was persistent. She wanted to fix up the front yard because it was their home. She admitted that what was prompting her to fix up the place was the incident with the eggs. Bryce confessed that they threw the eggs away because of the filthy backyard...
