Coping
There are many forms of coping addressed in Flat Out Love, such as coping with death, loss of a parent, loss of youth, and loss of love.
Julie copes with the loss of the ideal of her father who in truth has spent very little time with her over the years. Finally, Julie realizes that her father does not care about her the way she would like him to care. He is too heavily invested in his own life to spend time with her. This also brings an end to a part of Julie's life that she had cherished.
