Summary
Part Three of the book begins with Chapter 24. It is April and the sun is shining. Roger, Matt, Julie, and Celeste sit on the porch drinking lemonade. Matt teases Celeste about becoming a teenager, dressing in dreadful clothes, and reading teen magazines. Matt says smart girls don’t need all of that stuff. Celeste says she would like to be known for something other than being smart.
Matt attempts to hide a party invitation from Celeste. Julie insists that Celeste should go to the party. Matt says Celeste should not go because it would be too much for her. Julie says Celeste will be fine. Now that Flat Finn has hinges, he can easily fit into Celeste’s bag. Celeste insists on going to the party.
