Love and friendship
Balancing relationships between love and friendship is a theme in the book. Blake has a girlfriend, Shannon, and a friend that is a girl, Marissa. Blake tries to maintain his desire to be with Shannon, his first official girlfriend, and wanting to be a supportive, stable friend to Marissa. He wants to be a loyal and trustworthy boyfriend.
