Summary

In "Hotel Seattle," the narrator had been best friends with his college roommate, Paul. Really, he was harboring a secret crush. He hid his feelings because "Without question, Paul was straight" (151). It had also taken the narrator a long time to come out because of his religious upbringing. Paul dated incessantly, until "he met Gail McNamara . . . whom he married two springs" after graduation (152). A few "minutes before the ceremony," the narrator asked Paul if he was sure about his decision (152). Paul responded affirmatively.

It was not until later that the narrator came out to his family and friends. When he told Paul, Paul "was silent, then grunted out a few measly sentences" (154). He hung up and "never called back" (154).

After dating Steve for several years, the narrator decided to move to Seattle with him, thinking the relocation might alter the way...
