Summary
In "North Sea," two years after her husband Fritz's shocking death, Oda took her daughter Hanne on vacation to "the village of Harlesiel" (96). Hanne was 12, moody, and unenthusiastic about the trip. When they finally reached their inn, Oda was surprised by the accommodations. Their room did not match her expectations, though it precisely matched the innkeeper’s description (100).
