Summary

In Chapter 29, Malu goes directly to the cafeteria and confronts Joe. He apologizes, but Malu is so angry that she is not willing to hear or accept his apology. Malu says Principal Rivera promised consequences if she went through with her plan. She decides to quit. Joe is angry at her attitude but Malu points out that Ana “would probably support you if you got in trouble” (237). Joe leaves the table. Ellie and Benny believe Malu was harsh with Joe. Ellie says she does not quit on projects and says Malu cannot “let this happen” (239). She also points out that some kids took the flyer who may now be planning to be in their talent show. Malu leaves without saying anything else.
