Evie Porter

Evie Porter is the main character and the first person narrator of the novel. Evie’s real name is Lucca Marino. She grew up in a rural town in North Carolina with her mother in a trailer park. She and her mom struggled to survive throughout Evie’s childhood. When Evie was still a teenager, her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and Evie was forced to take extreme measures to make ends meet. She began working at a florist’s shop, through which she came in contact with wealthy patrons from whom she began to steal. She then used the stolen goods to procure the money she needed to pay for her mother’s medications and treatments.
