Summary

In Chapter 9, Evie visits the UPS store to check her mailbox for information about Lucca from her boss, Mr. Smith. She remembers “the piece of paper that introduced [her] to Ryan” when Mr. Smith made him her mark (63). The paper explained Ryan’s background and history. Mr. Smith wanted all the information she could find on him. She began studying him after receiving the job, and discovered his involvement with Victor Connolly, “head of one of the largest crime families in the Northeast” (66). Evie has been doing well with the assignment until now, as Mr. Smith failed to prepare her for meeting “an imposter using [her] true identity” (67).
