Part 2: Chapters 1-8 Summary
Teasle is in the hills where the deputies lost sight of Rambo. Orval joins him. Teasle recalls how he and Orval, the man who raised him after his father's death, fought the last time they saw one another. Teasle tries hard to make amends and to not fight again as he urges Orval to agree to begin the search immediately rather than wait for first light in the morning. Orval finally reluctantly agrees when Teasle explains how important it is to him to be in charge of this search due to the death of his deputy.
