Chapters 21 & 22 Summary

Alex turns with a glint of excitement in her eye, ready to kill off the Adepts, but before she can shake the earth, Jamie hurls a ball of fire in Alex's direction, giving the Adepts just enough time to leap behind a table before Sebastian unloads a massive firespell. Jamie manages to knit together a wall of fire, preventing the Reapers from reaching them while they unload Scout from the table. Through the wall of fire, Lily makes eye contact with Sebastian, and he looks at her with sympathy, even apology, in his eyes. Scout pulls Lily from the gaze by shouting for her to do something. Lily tries to summon her light-control power, but she hasn't yet mastered the technique. She tries to force the magic out of her body, but nothing happens. Scout tries to throw a spell of her own...
