Chapters 17 & 18 Summary
When Lily and Scout arrive outside Foley's office, they see that the lights are out and that there's no one around. Quietly, the push open the office door and begin searching for clues. First, they return Lily's file to the cabinet and search for files with her parents' names on them. They don't find any until Lily searches under Sterling Research, and finds a letter from a man named William, addressed to her father. The letter states that Germany is not the safest place for Lily and that she should be housed at St. Sophia's until her parents return. The letter also says, "It would be unwise for her to accompany you to Germany or for you to inform her about the precise nature of your work. Doing so would put you all in danger. That you are taking sabbatical, hardly a lie...
