Sugar Island

Sugar Island is the place where the majority of the enrolled members of the tribe live. It is Daunis’s favorite place in the world even though she lives on the mainland. A good deal of the action of the novel takes place on Sugar Island. It is where Daunis’s aunt lives. The powwow where Travis shoots Lily takes place on the island. Daunis goes searching for mushrooms and finds Heather’s body on the island. When Dana, Mike, and Levi kidnap Daunis and Jamie, they are taken to a trailer in a remote part of Sugar Island where there is no cell service or satellite signal.
