Summary

Chapter 25 is entitled "Acoustemology." Granny Itiba and Yamaye travel to the Black River to go hike in a place Moose used to love. During the hike, Yamaye feels especially connected to Moose and her mother. A few days later, Yamaye goes to the Homes of Hope orphanage. She meets with a nun named Sister Abike, who remembers her mother well. Sister Abike tells Yamaye that her mother was beloved, caring for younger children in the orphanage and being known as a singer. Sister Abike says she and Yamaye’s mother stayed in touch for a while, with the last letter received from Guayana. Sister Abike says that if Yamaye’s mother was still alive, she would have heard from her by now. She also says that Yamaye’s mother had been looking for a house in Jamaica for the two...
