Summary

In Chapter 15: “Bad Blood,” Yamaye tries to discuss what happened the previous night, but Monassa denies any wrongdoing, instead blaming Yamaye, calling her a “Seductress” (169). Over the next few days, Monassa continues to assault her. Monassa takes Yamaye and some of his crew to a club called Shackles, where they are escorted to a private booth. Yamaye demands to perform, and the club owner relents. Yamaye returns to the table, where only Dungle remains. He invites a woman named Charmaine to the table, who is kind to Yamaye. She later gives Yamaye her number and says that she will look out for her. The next day, Monassa makes Yamaye take a bath with him, and informs her that she will be singing at Shackles beginning the next week. He asks her what she spoke to Charmaine about. He...
