Summary
After Maegor’s death, Jaehaerys I rose to be king in 48 AC and ruled for the next 55 years. He was only 14 when he was first coronated, so his mother Alyssa acted as Queen Regent and she and his council ruled in his stead, but even at a young age he was invested in his realm and his rule. There first order of business involved seeing to all of Maegor’s supporters. They were imprisoned and the council considered putting them all to death without trial, but Jaehaerys wanted the people to see he was not his uncle. He allowed all but the worst traitors who had tortured and killed Viserys at Maegor’s order to go free so long as they swore fealty to him, sent a ward, and gave up certain lands and honors.
