Structure
“Finding Me is comprised of twenty-six short to medium-sized chapters. A “Preface” by Michelle Knight precedes the first chapter which provides an overview of Michelle’s ordeal of abduction, abuse and horror. An “Afterword” following the last chapter is an update from the author on her life after rescue and the difficult road to recovery that she is facing. A section of photos of Michelle at various stages of her life is also included in the book.
This memoir is fundamentally told in chronological order and first details Michelle’s difficult childhood during which she was neglected and emotionally abandoned by her parents and sexually abused repeatedly and frequently over the years by a male relative.
