Summary
In “Me,” Albom tells Chika that his ideas about fatherhood came from his father. Albom remembers that he always felt safe around his father. Albom tells Chika that he hopes that he made her feel safe, like his father did for him. He remembers how Chika would sometimes take his hand when they were walking. That gesture made him feel like a father.
Albom next writes about the flowered headbands that Chika wore. The flower was positioned to cover the bald spot where she was shaved for the procedure in New York. He remembered how bemused Chika had been when she first saw herself in the mirror. They had first gotten a cap for her to wear. Then, after they found the flowered headbands, Chika preferred them.
