Love and Connection
One of the main thematic functions of the novel is the exploration of love as a foundational source of fulfillment. The romantic relationships in the novel specifically convey how fulfilling romantic relationships are often unparalleled in terms of the happiness that they may bring to a person. Sami and Miranda’s romantic connection is the first example of this dynamic in the novel, for when they meet each other, they are both somewhat lonely and have had struggles in terms of romantic connection.
