Chapters Eleven through Fourteen Summary
Alex watches the coverage of Isabella's funeral on television. She's waiting for Jed to return from Paris and after the funeral coverage, she tries to read a novel but has trouble concentrating. She telephones the Twentieth Precinct's Special Victims Unit where she learns that Mercer is out for the rest of the weekend. An officer on duty, Frank Barber, gives her an update based on the report he has and Alex admits that she's looking for a distraction from her own problems—Isabella's murder and her relationship with Jed—by looking for an update on the case. She learns that a new victim, Mrs. Zalina, fought back and that the woman swears she can recognize her attacker's penis. Alex also learns that there is a young woman who called for help but hadn't yet made...
