Summary
In "Apartment," Lionel, Charles, and Sophie walked to Sophie's apartment. Lionel regretted accepting their invitation. Lionel studied a feather poking out of Charles' coat, imagining what would happen if he tugged it. When Charles mentioned being late for dance class, Lionel apologized. Charles bit Lionel’s neck to teach him a lesson.
During dinner, Lionel watched Charles' mouth, thinking about how he "had bitten him" (222).
Afterwards, while Charles washed the dishes, Sophie pressed Lionel about what was on his mind (223). The more questions she asked, the more uncomfortable Lionel felt. He wanted to leave.
