Ribbons
In the novel's opening chapters, ribbons symbolize Nori's relationship with her mother. She has twelve ribbons total, having received each one as a gift when her mother was pleased with her. Nori treasures these ribbons, keeping them with care and saving some of them to wear only on special occasions. She keeps these ribbons with her when she is taken to the brothel, even using them to wrap the knife with which she intends to take her life.
