Summary

In Chapter 5, "Two Gifts," the last surviving member of the 15, Prince lives alone composing poetry. No other living creature can understand his work. Prince is generally happy, finding contentment in language. He is most happy, however, during his days spent with his human companion Kim. Initially they lived in Alberta with Kim's family. When Kim left home for the city, Prince went along. However, he hated urban life, and was separated from Kim almost at once. He began a life of exploring. When he abandoned his ventures to find Kim, he could not. He managed to find some humans who he did not trust, but who gave him food.
